Welcome to Niagara Sports Arena
Niagara Spots Arena is home to recreational inline roller hockey leagues for young athletes and adults. The athletes can hone their hockey skills in our leagues running indoors all year round .
At Niagara Sports Arena, we place a high value on teaching our athletes the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. We encourage learning the game of hockey in a fair and safe manner, while experiencing all of the fun and excitement of roller hockey.
Inline roller hockey is very similar to ice hockey, with changes to rules and game play that allow compensation for the changes from ice to dry floors.
The game is played by two teams, with three skaters and one goalie to each side on a hard wood floor. The floor is divided into two halves by a center line with one net at each end of the rink. The game is played in two 22-minute halves with an overtime when needed.
The rules that differ from ice hockey are few, yet important. With inline roller hockey, there is no icing, no off-sides and no body checking. Light bumping is allowed, but only when in pursuit of the puck.
As with any sport, team work, skill and aggressiveness are needed to be successful on the floor.
Inline roller hockey is played in nearly 60 countries across the globe and is considered a professional sport in North America, represented by the Professional Inline Hockey Association (PIHA) and Major League Roller Hockey (MLRH).
There are many associations for youth players across the world, and the United States especially. These associations include USA Hockey Inline (USHIL), the American Inline Hockey League (AIHL), and the North American Roller Hockey Championships (NARCh).
